Good food and travel. Two of my favorite things.

I've had the honor of traveling extensively in the last five years. This has led me to a multitude of locations, here and abroad. And in all of those locations, one thing remains consistent - our hunt for good food.

Bratwurst and Oktoberfest lager in Munich. Goulash and Soproni in Budapest. Sunday pub dinner (roast beef) and Guinness in England. Haggis and Gin in Edinburgh (I only ate a bite of the haggis).

Meals at Disney locations. Meals in Hawaii. Meals in Anaheim, Denver, and Pocatello. Beer in Germany. Gin in Edinburgh. Wine in Paris. Beer at home.

It all boils down to this - I believe that to live well is to enjoy the art of eating. It's one of the most intimate things we do, and we sometimes just munch down whatever is nearby without enjoying it.

So, I've decided to change that. Why is a meal away from home so different? Well, we didn't have to cook it or go find it. We sat down at a table and someone brought it to us. We also didn't have to do the dishes. Nice. There's novelty in dining out. But there doesn't have to be.

There are dozens, hundreds, maybe even thousands of movements towards a slow food rebirth. I don't know if that's really a thing, but I like it.

Slow food. Opposite of fast food. Opposite of quick service. Even if it is still a relatively quick meal because of a busy schedule, take the extra few minutes to enjoy it. Chew your food. Converse with your dining mates. Put down the phone, the book or the tablet and savour your meal.

This is not a food blog. It will not become a food blog because there are already so many others out there that do this with a passion I don't have to write about my meal planning and consuming process.

But it is a blog. It's probably a lifestyle blog. And this is a food post (stop drawing connections where there aren't any!) There will be food posts because I eat food. There will be travel posts because I travel. There will probably not be any theatre posts because that's my day job and I get enough of it there. I also reserve the right to break any and all of these guidelines when a question needs answering.

So that's that. I'll get to the Whiskey and Cupcakes in another post...
